Janie Howard Wilson is an Elementary School of approximately 400 students in the Lake Wales Charter School system, in Lake Wales, Florida.
From 2014 through 2017, the school received a School Grade from the Florida Department of Education of "D".
During the 2017-18 school year, the Charter School central office asked for reports to be prepared and summarized at monthly School Board meetings. Reports focused on student performance on progress monitoring assessments in the state-assessed content areas, as well student enrollment, attendance, and behavior data measures in all grade levels. These reports highlighted changes in data throughout the school year, which helped generate targeted timely action steps for the school. The reports also provided comparisons with the same data elements from the previous school year and other schools in the area, which helped illustrate for the Board how the school was performing.
The cumulative points earned in the data elements that determine the School Grade improved by 50 points (18.2%) from Spring 2017 to Spring 2018, according to the Florida Department of Education. The new school grade is "C".
